Questions And Misconceptions About The Internet Marketing Niche

When most people think of niche marketing they think mostly about niches such as weight loss, dog training, relationships, etc. These are great niches and can be very profitable if worked correctly, but many people seem to overlook one of the biggest niches with a huge earning potential, the internet marketing/make money niche.

I was on a live call a few days ago with Mark Ling of Affilorama and he explained some of the misconceptions about the IM niche and he went through some things you can do to make this a fairly easy niche to make money in.  Here are some of the key things he covered in the call:

One of the biggest misconceptions about the IM niche is that it is too competitive. It is no secret that the IM niche is very competitive, but there is also a much bigger audience in the IM niche than in a lot of other niches. There really is room for you in the IM niche, the demand for make money products and info are constantly on the rise, especially during times of economic downturn. Even though there are a large number of marketers going into the IM niche every day, there are also an exponentially greater number of individuals looking for info to make more money every day so the demand is always much greater than the supply.

Another misconception, “Isn’t it harder to make money in the internet marketing niche?” The truth is that it is neither harder nor easier to make money in the IM niche over other niches, it is simply different. It can be more expensive to do paid advertising, such as PPC, in the IM niche, however, each dollar that you spend in this niche will typically return more profits than in other niches. So even though you may pay more for certain advertising avenues, you should also make more money from your investment.

“Im afraid of starting out in the IM niche, shouldn’t I get my feet wet in other niches first?” The truth is that many newbies to internet marketing hit a home run in this niche their first time out because there are so many rabid buyers waiting to purchase their products and because the traffic typically converts better. The approach in this niche is different than other niches but once you master the IM niche it becomes a no brainer to dominate other niches. If you try to do that backwards it doesn’t work as well.

Zen And The Art Of Niche Marketing

Some of the principles contained within the Zen belief system pertain closely to niche marketing as well. Don’t worry I’m not getting all esoteric on you here, but there really is some important correlations between the two. The Zen concept of oneness, being at one with everything can be a very powerful lesson for the new niche marketer.

As a niche marketer, it is your job to be inside your visitors heads at all times, to know as much as possible about what they want even when they don’t really know what they want. You have to come up with intelligent looking information and helpful products even when you know nothing about the subject matter. This takes research and a little understanding of your market.

Being one with everything in the marketing sense just means having an understanding of how niche marketing works and a basic understanding of whatever niche you are planning on going in to. You need to immerse yourself, in a sense, in that niche and experience it, as much as possible how your target audience does. Now obviously this does not mean go and divorce your spouse so you can promote a relationship product, or gain a ton of weight to know how your overweight crowd feels, that would just be dumb. The object here is to make our lives and the lives of our visitors better.

Go to the places your target audience visits and try to get in their heads, figure out what makes them tick. The more you know about your visitors, the more your work will appeal to them. Search for forums in your niche and see what problems people are having and try to figure out a way for your marketing to help them solve those problems. A lot of the times the answers are already there in front of you, you just have to try to become one with that crowd while you are there mingling with them.

Put your mind in their place. In your mind try to think about what it would feel like to have their problems, or wants, or needs, or whatever. Think of how it may feel to be overweight, the fatigue, the snickers and stares, the health risks, and the insecurities that come along with it. Think of how it may feel to lose a boyfriend, or have an unruly child or dog, or be in dire financial straights and you will be able to better understand what is going on in their heads. Understanding their mental processes will go a long way in helping you appeal to them in a unique way that not only helps them solve their problem but makes you a nice income at the same time.

Being one with your visitors really is the best way to sell to them. If they feel that you understand them and are genuinely there to help them solve their problems, they will put money in your pocket over and over again as long as you offer quality products and information and they feel you are genuinely there to help them.
